Applications Have Opened for The Falling Walls Lab 2024 Pitch Competition in Zimbabwe

Posted on

Have you had a moment of inspiration that could change the world, but don’t know how to make it a reality? An idea that seems too ambitious or unfamiliar but holds tremendous promise? If so, Falling Walls Lab Zimbabwe 2024 may be your chance to break through barriers with a visionary solution.

The international ideas pitching competition is now welcoming applications from innovative thinkers across the country. For student entrepreneurs, scientists or activists with a big idea, Falling Walls Lab provides a global stage to share your breakthrough concept in just three minutes. Winners will advance to pitch at the finals in Berlin before an audience of investors, leaders and media – gaining invaluable exposure for their work.

Past Zimbabwean champions have already started reshaping industries and communities with the support launched from this launch-pad for game-changing ideas. This year, Falling Walls Lab Zimbabwe is on the hunt once more for bold thinkers ready to fearlessly share the solutions of tomorrow. Applications are open until June 14th for those prepared to take their vision to new heights.

Eligible participants should be submitting proposals, research or startups in various fields including science, technology, social or humanitarian initiatives. The submission deadline is June 14, 2024.

Winners will get a chance to represent Zimbabwe at the global Falling Walls finals in Berlin, Germany in November 2024. At the international event, winners will have the opportunity to pitch their ideas to high-profile decision makers, potential investors and global media. This is a chance for contestants to showcase Zimbabwe’s innovative talent and solutions to the world.

The local competition will be held on August 2, 2024 at ZB Innovation Hub in Harare. This state-of-the-art tech facility and business incubator, located on the corner of First Street and Kwame Nkrumah Avenue, will provide the perfect environment for participants to present their groundbreaking concepts.

Falling Walls Lab Zimbabwe is organized by partners including the Friedrich Naumann Foundation Zimbabwe, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), ZB Innovation Hub, and Heart and Soul TV. These organizations are dedicated to supporting Zimbabwe’s entrepreneurs and driving progress in areas like science, sustainability and equality.

Past winners of the Falling Walls Lab Zimbabwe finals have gone on to achieve great success. Dr Emmie Chiyindiko, who won in 2021 with her work on alternative energy products, went on to launch a successful career as a renowed scientist. Aluwaine Manyonga, victor in 2022, is developing innovative lighting products using recycling.

All those interested in applying are encouraged to submit a short application form available on the Falling Walls Lab Zimbabwe website or social media pages.

By providing such a major opportunity for exposure, funding and international cooperation, Falling Walls Lab is helping unlock Zimbabwe’s potential for growth. It challenges participants to distill their concepts and clearly communicate their vision. With its supportive network of sponsors, the competition nurtures Zimbabwe’s brightest problem solvers and strengthens the ecosystem of innovation in the country. Applications for the 2024 edition close on June 14th.
