Shaping the Future of the MICE Industry: Mulemwa Moongwa’s Keynote at ZEPEX

Posted on

The Zimbabwe Events Professionals Expo (ZEPEX), set to take place from 15-16 March 2024, promises to be a groundbreaking event in the realm of event planning and management.

Among the distinguished speakers, Mulemwa Moongwa, the Vice Chairperson of The Council of Events Professionals Africa, will take center stage as the keynote speaker.

With her extensive experience and expertise in government-to-government (G2G) and government-to-business (G2B) events, Mulemwa has become a driving force in shaping the future of the Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry across Africa.

Mulemwa Moongwa’s credentials speak volumes about her commitment and passion for the MICE industry.

As a Certified Meetings Professional, Business Tourism Specialist, and Board Member of the Tourism Council of Zambia, she has dedicated the past eighteen years to supporting various projects in policy implementation and advocating for the growth of the MICE industry.

Her positions as Vice Chairperson of the Events Professionals Association of Zambia, Vice Chairperson of the Council of Events Professionals in Africa, and Member Champion for Meeting Professionals International in Africa further solidify her influential role in shaping the industry’s landscape.

Mulemwa Moongwa’s speech, titled “MICEnomics: Harnessing the Economic Power & Potential of the MICE Industry,” is set to delve into the crucial role of the MICE industry as a contributor to national economies.

While the sector has experienced significant growth globally, Africa still faces challenges in establishing defined career paths and educational opportunities for aspiring professionals.

Mulemwa aims to shed light on these issues and propose solutions to bridge the gap. One of the key points Mulemwa will address is the lack of specific career or learning paths within the Meetings & Events Industry and the broader MICE sector.

Despite the increasing number of higher education institutions worldwide offering event management degrees, Africa lags behind in academia and professional recognition for practitioners.

The industry often prioritizes experience over formal education, relying on individuals’ talent and cross-cutting skills.

Mulemwa will emphasize the need for a paradigm shift, advocating for the elevation of practitioners to professional status through comprehensive educational programs and certification pathways.

As Africa’s meetings landscape continues to grow post-pandemic, the benefits of professionalization and talent generation are clearer than ever.

Mulemwa is passionate about driving this conversation continent-wide and helping nations maximize returns through strategic human capital investments.

ZEPEX attendees may come away questioning how their own roles and partnerships could further such ambitions.

The Zimbabwe Events Professionals Expo (ZEPEX), is an event hosted by the Institute of Events Professionals in Zimbabwe Trust.

The event seeks to bring together all individuals, corporates and enthusiasts of the events industry across Zimbabwe onto a nationwide platform that will support the M.I.C.E Tourism agenda.

It is an event where participants and get to showcase their products & services, learn from industry leaders as well as find out more about how they can develop their skills in their various discplines.

The event will kick off with a Seminar which will address various topics around the state of the tourism and events industry, the importance of continued professional developement as well as the introduction of professional designations among other issues.

This year’s edition will be held on the 15th to the 16th of March 2024 at The Venue in Avondale.
