Listen up, folks.
Elon Musk, that guy who owns like half of the world’s companies, has announced on Twitter that he’s found a new CEO for Twitter.
Unfortunately, he didn’t tell us who it is, but The Wall Street Journal is reporting that it might be Linda Yaccarino, the head of advertising at NBCUniversal.
Apparently, the new CEO will start in six weeks, so buckle up for some changes!
In the same tweet, Musk wrote that he’s stepping down as CEO and taking on the role of executive chair and chief technology officer.
He said, “Excited to announce that I’ve a new CEO for X/Twitter. She will be starting in ~6 weeks! My role will transition to being exec chair & CTO, overseeing product, software & sysops.”
Musk bought Twitter for a whopping $44 billion back in October of last year, and since then, he’s been running the show.
He gave Twitter’s previous CEO, Parag Agrawal, and a bunch of other executives the boot and even laid off half of the staff in November. Talk about a power move!
He’s been saying for a while now that he planned to step down as CEO and appoint a new chief executive before the end of 2023, but he’s been keeping his cards close to his chest about who might be taking over. Maybe he’s been busy building rockets or something.
During his time as CEO, Musk has made some major changes to Twitter’s policies and features, which has caused some advertisers to hit the pause button on their spending.
He launched a new, more expensive subscription service called Twitter Blue that lets users buy verification and got rid of those old “legacy” verified check marks.
He also disbanded the Trust and Safety council and reinstated the accounts of Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Yikes.
Tesla investors have been getting antsy about Musk’s time spent on Twitter, so this news about a new CEO will probably make them breathe a sigh of relief.
Tesla’s shares even went up after the announcement.
Who knew a tweet could have such an impact?
Even though Musk won’t be CEO of Twitter anymore, he still owns the company. In fact, he recently renamed it X Corp.
Apparently, he’s been dreaming of building this app called “X, the everything app” for a while now.
Sounds like a pretty big project, but I guess when you’re Elon Musk, nothing is too big to tackle.
So, there you have it, folks.
Elon Musk is stepping down as CEO of Twitter and appointing a new chief executive in six weeks.
Who will it be?
Only time will tell.
But, in the meantime, let’s sit back and see what kind of changes are in store for one of the world’s biggest social media platforms.
