Premier League champions Manchester City have joined forces with global entertainment juggernaut WWE to create an exclusive merchandise collection merging the worlds of football and professional wrestling. This first-of-its-kind collaboration represents an innovative way for the two organizations to engage their massive worldwide fanbases.
The new co-branded clothing line includes six unique t-shirt designs that blend iconic Manchester City and WWE elements. A standout shirt features the slogan “best team in the land and all the world”, paying homage to famous WWE Superstar CM Punk. Other tops reference beloved wrestling legends Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin through graphic designs incorporating trademarks from each entertainer.
To further promote the partnership, Manchester City players will sport a custom name and number style during their preseason tour of the United States this summer. The bold new jersey numbering incorporates the WWE logo within striking red outlines, visually merging the two brands in an eye-catching athletic wear design sure to turn heads. This unique jersey look has the potential to start new trends in sports apparel by crossing over mainstream pop culture references into team uniforms.
According to Serena Gosling, Manchester City’s Director of Integrated Fan Experience and Retail & Licensing, collaborations like the one with WWE are a key part of the club’s ongoing strategy to enhance their merchandise offering for global supporters. “We are always exploring new ways to engage our fans around the world, and this collaboration allows us to reach WWE enthusiasts as well,” Gosling stated.
The team-up offers additional opportunities to activate both fanbases during Manchester City’s American preseason tour. On June 28th, current WWE Women’s Champion Bayley and Superstar Baron Corbin will visit the CityStore location in New York City for a special meet-and-greet with fans. Between 10am-11am, supporters can get exclusive photos and autographs with the wrestling stars while also ogling the Premier League trophy on display throughout the weekend.
With both Manchester City and WWE boasting massive, worldwide fanbases, this innovative collaboration promises to drive considerable attention across sports and entertainment. By creatively merging iconic brands and characters, the new co-branded merchandise and custom jersey designs have great potential to resonate with audiences from both the football and wrestling worlds, all while generating buzz leading up to Manchester City’s summer visit to America. The partnership exemplifies both organizations’ strategies to continually explore engaging new communities of supporters across the globe.
