Bic is known worldwide for its versatile and affordable pens and art supplies. In one of its most creative print adverts, Bic showcases the abilities of its white-out correction tape in a simple yet effective ‘before and after’ concept.
The advert features a hand-drawn blue ink image of a car on a piece of paper. An illustrated pothole lies in the road directly in front of the car. This serves as the ‘before’ snapshot. Next to this image is the ‘after’ shot. It is near-identical except that the pothole has been covered by a strip of Bic white-out correction tape.
With just this small alteration, the problem of the pothole has been fixed, allowing the car to safely continue down the road. No words are needed to describe what has taken place – the visuals alone effectively convey the tape’s error-covering capabilities.
The clean and minimalist black and white artwork lets the product be the hero. The hand-drawn style adds a personal touch to help consumers relate to the situation. Fixing minor mistakes is something we all experience on a regular basis in our daily lives and work.
At the bottom right of the advert, hand written in blue ink is the simple yet powerful tagline – “Make It Right”. This reinforces the key message that Bic white-out can remedy errors just as easily as covering a pothole fixes an issue for a drawing.
