Mark Zuckerburg has a chance to do the funniest thing ever.
I’ve been watching with interest as Elon Musk has made waves by taking over Twitter and immediately rebranding it from Twitter to X.
His vision for an “everything app” like WeChat has been met with both enthusiasm and criticism from users.
Over at Facebook’s parent company Meta, Mark Zuckerburg launched a Twitter-clone called Threads in July this year. Threads gained 100mil users in 5 days, while Twitter took 5 years. But the number of people using the Threads has been in steady decline ever since, with daily active users on Android hovering between 11mil and 12mil over the past seven days.
We’ve already seen Zuckerburg is an opportunist who isn’t afraid to directly compete with other platforms if he sees an opportunity. And with Musk shaking things up and alienating some Twitter users with the rebrand to X, it could create an opening for Threads.
With the impending physical fight between the 2 tech billionaires at an undisclosed location, my mind still shifts back to the digital realm.
Oh man, if Threads actually rebranded as the new Twitter things would get real funny real fast. I can just picture Zuck sitting in his metaverse headquarters rubbing his hands together like a villain while plotting how to stick it to Musk.

He’d probably be all “Elon thinks he can just waltz in and change the name of Twitter to X? Well check out my rebellious new rebrand – Threads is now Twitter 2.0”
The best part is Threads would definitely try to spin it like they’ve conquered Twitter.
Musk obviously wouldn’t take the challenge lying down. Dude would blow a gasket, triggering the mother of all Twitter meltdowns. “Zuckerberg is a lame copycat. I welcome the competition to expose Meta/Facebook’s data mining. Bring it on baldy!”
The gloves would be well and truly off. The social media smack talk would be better than any pay-per-view fight. But really, we all know the viewers are the real winners if this saga plays out.
Just imagine Zuck and Musk roasting each other back and forth for weeks. The petty jabs and conspiracy theory laced accusations would be comedic gold. Maybe Zuck would insist Musk is hiding something by changing the Twitter name. Or Elon would “accidentally” leak DMs suggesting Zuck’s hair transplant went badly wrong.
Though the rebranding of Threads to Twitter remains a mere figment of imagination, the hypothetical scenario poses a tantalizing proposition. The collision of these two social media powerhouses would forever redefine the landscape, leaving users enthralled, debating, and eagerly awaiting the next move of these tech giants.
My prediction? After a few weeks of all-out social media warfare, Musk and Zuck would have to call a truce. Too many bruised egos on both sides to ever reconcile. But the real winners would be us observers who got front row seats to the funniest feud in tech history! I say make it happen guys – give the people what they really want!
