Expensify Rebrands: Introduces New Brand identity

Posted on

Expensify, the trailblazing expense reporting software, recently underwent a remarkable transformation, breathing new life into its brand.

Recognizing the need to address a myriad of design challenges, the company embarked on a journey to redefine their visual language and establish a cohesive brand system.

In the quest for a fresh aesthetic, Expensify embarked on a creative partnership with The Collected Works, a renowned boutique design agency celebrated for their ability to craft captivating vibes.

Together, they delved into an expansive exploration of design possibilities, ranging from the familiar to the utterly audacious. After weeks of relentless experimentation and collaboration, they emerged with a design system that pulsates with the essence of Expensify.

The result? A visually harmonious tapestry that weaves together the Expensify personality across all touchpoints, effortlessly transcending use cases and mediums.

From the opulent ExpensiCon in the heart of Italy to accounting conferences in dazzling Las Vegas, from towering billboards that dot the country to the daily mosaic of social media, every expression of Expensify now radiates its signature qualities: boldness, courage, innovation, and intuitive understanding.

Typography became a cornerstone of this reimagined identity, as bespoke type families took center stage. Enter Expensify New Kansas, Expensify Neue, and Expensify Mono, meticulously crafted to strike the perfect balance between playfulness and utility.

Collaborating closely with esteemed type foundries, CoType and Newlyn, every letterform was scrutinized, ensuring a shared DNA across the typefaces that shines brilliantly in both digital and physical executions.

But the transformation didn’t stop there. Expensify’s hero color, a vibrant green, expanded its reach, spreading its tonal wings to embrace a multitude of situations.

The color palette blossomed, accommodating the diverse needs of marketing, product design, accessibility, and illustration. Notably, Expensify championed inclusivity by incorporating a range of skin tonalities for their human characters, celebrating the beautiful diversity of the world we inhabit.

Yet, Expensify’s rebranding journey was not confined to static visuals. Inspired by the success of their audacious Super Bowl commercial in 2019, they embarked on a thrilling collaboration with Augenblick Studios, opening a portal to an animated universe brimming with possibilities.

This captivating realm introduced a vibrant cast of characters, enchanting vignettes, immersive backgrounds, and simplified illustrations that breathe life into their product and messaging.

Expensify’s recent rebranding endeavor has birthed a comprehensive and adaptable design system that is the true embodiment of their spirit.

With unwavering attention to detail and a fearless willingness to push boundaries, Expensify has transcended the confines of conventional design, creating a visual identity that resonates deeply with their users.

Through this metamorphosis, Expensify has solidified its position as an industry leader in expense reporting software, empowering individuals and businesses alike to conquer their financial challenges with elegance and ease.
