According to a report by The Information, OpenAI is reportedly considering the creation of a marketplace for AI models.
This platform would enable users to customize their AI models and sell them to other businesses, similar to an app store.
The AI models could perform various tasks, including identifying fraudulent financial transactions or providing industry-specific real-time information.
It is unclear whether OpenAI will charge a commission on sales or adopt a different revenue-generating strategy.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman disclosed plans for the marketplace during a meeting with developers in London last month.
CTO Vlad Eidelman believes that OpenAI is interested in opening an app store, based on the company’s roadmap.
However, an OpenAI spokesperson stated that there are currently no active efforts to develop such a marketplace.
Altman also revealed that ChatGPT plug-ins were not gaining traction, as they did not have a product-market fit.
OpenAI recently released over 70 plugins for ChatGPT+ users, enabling the chatbot to interact with third-party platforms such as Expedia, Instacart, and Shopify.
