There may be no bigger crossover star in the world right now than LeBron James. The NBA superstar has dominated on the basketball court for nearly two decades, cementing his status as one of the greatest to ever play. But James has also shown that his talents extend far beyond the hardwood. An avid music lover ,James has long been practicing his rapping abilities—a hobby that is gaining more attention. From posting freestyles on social media to collaborating with legends like Lil Wayne, James is making serious waves in hip hop culture.
Fans recently saw a video James posted of himself rapping along to a Gunna song while looking down at his phone to read the words.
Thankfully, James didn’t need any help when appearing in a new Beats commercial. The commercial starts with James arriving at a party excited to check out the new Beats Pill+. To his delight, Lil Wayne’s iconic song “A Milli” starts playing. James effortlessly raps along to the catchy chorus without glancing at a phone.
The screen then cuts to reveal the release date of June 25th for “The Predicament,” James’ collaboration with Beats. While James and Wayne have known each other for over a decade, they haven’t always seen eye to eye. Wayne told Rolling Stone he had a falling out with James after a 2011 basketball game where James and Dwyane Wade failed to acknowledge seeing Wayne in the stands.
Ever since, there has been perceived tension between the two stars. So fans were intrigued to see them come together for this commercial and upcoming project. By wrapping his smooth baritone voice around Wayne’s rapid-fire flow, James demonstrated an impressive ability to keep up with one of rap’s greats. Whether “The Predicament” can help James and Wayne fully bury the hatchet remains unseen. But their brief reunion on screen for Beats proved these icons still share a mutual respect for each other’s talents, on and off the court.
