YouTube recently made changes to its Partner Program that can help small creators get their channels off the ground and start earning income earlier in their careers.
The Partner Program is YouTube’s monetization system that allows eligible creators to earn money from their videos through ads and other features.
Traditionally, to join the Partner Program and access monetization, YouTube required creators to have at least 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours within the last year.
YouTube recently lowered these hurdles for some features to better support up-and-coming creators.
The new requirements to access “Fan Funding” options like Super Thanks, Super Chat and channel memberships are 500 subscribers and 3 video uploads within the last 90 days, alongside either 3 million shorts views or 3,000 watch hours within 90 days.
These adjustments unlock critical income sources for emerging creators before they hit the full Partner Program requirements.
Being able to earn even a small income from viewers fans early on can motivate creators to continue investing time and effort into growing their channels.
While smaller creators must still meet the standard Partner Program criteria to monetize their videos with ads, gaining access to Fan Funding enables them to begin earning revenue and building audiences earlier in their journeys.
This head start could help many nascent YouTubers decide if pursuing YouTube as a career is viable for them.

Hey there! Thanks for the comment and I’m glad you enjoy the blog. One of the things that has helped me in my blogging career is choosing a particular niche and then writing everything I can to cover the niche. When I started I had no idea what niche I wanted to cover so I just wrote about a bunch of topics I cared about. I discovered the posts that were pulling in the most traffic and wrote more of those types of articles. Hope this helps!
