Sports brand ON has released an exciting new advert starring actress Zendaya, actor Darnell Appling and tennis legend Roger Federer. The advert is a brilliant continuation of Zendaya’s character Tashi from her recent hit film ‘Challengers’.
In the film, Tashi is a former tennis star turned coach navigating a love triangle with her ex-player and current champion husband. The ON advert picks up Tashi’s competitive spirit showing her literally bumping into Federer while shopping in their brand new ON shoes. The two tennis titans give each other threatening looks, visibly sizing one another up across the store aisle.
What ensues is an epic game of ‘air tennis’ outside the store with Darnell Appling umpiring the invisible match. Federer and Zendaya’s Tashi show off their skills, volleying and serving an “imaginary” ball between them with intense focus and athleticism. Appling clutches an invisible scoreboard captivating the audience with his energetic commentary of the point-for-point battle.
The cinematography captures the playful skirmish in impressive slow motion, zooming in on the competitors’ fierce facial expressions and nimble footwork. As the invisible final point is won, Appling declares a victor to the audience’s cheering delight. The commercial ends on a dramatic close up of Zendaya and Federer, both breathing heavily from the exertion but with smiles on their faces. The caption “Dream On” flashes on the screen cementing ON’s ethos of empowering individuals to chase their ambitions through sport.
