Toronto-born rapper Drake had high hopes that Canada’s national soccer team could pull off an upset over defending World Cup champs Argentina in the Copa America tournament. However, those hopes were dashed after Drake allegedly bet $300,000 on Canada in their international friendly last week only to see Argentina cruise to a 2-0 victory.

Drake is well-known for being one of Canada’s most famous sports fans and routinely shows his support for teams across the country. But his confidence in Canada soccer may have exceeded their actual abilities against Lionel Messi and company. After the final whistle, the Argentine soccer association posted a cheeky photo to social media that took a subtle dig at Drake.

The graphic featured the entire Argentine squad grinning and embracing together with the text “Not Like Us” written prominently across the top. This was an obvious reference to Drake and his famous rap rivalry with Kendrick Lamar. Lamar released a song this year titled “Not Like Us” where he calls out Drake and implies they’re not equals.

While just a lighthearted jab and not meant as a serious diss, Drake’s massive financial stake in the match and Argentina’s decision to directly reference his music rivalry still had many on social media buzzing in the aftermath. For the Toronto-born rapper, it was an expensive lesson learned about betting big on his home country against tough international opposition.
