South African snack brand Nik Naks has launched their newest flavoured chip – ‘The Cheesy Kota’ – with the help of hip hop star Maglera Doe Boy. Doe Boy headlines Niknaks new 30-second advert which introduces the flavour inspired by the iconic South African township dish, kota.

The kota is a beloved street food that originated in Daveyton as a hollowed-out half loaf of bread filled with minced beef and mashed potato. It has since evolved to use slap chips instead of mash and includes sausages, eggs and other fillings. Nik Naks ‘Cheesy Kota’ aims to bring the hearty flavours of the dish to a fun snack format.

In the advert, viewers join Doe Boy as he travels through a vibrant South African township. He interacts with locals and sights like a lively taxi rank before arriving at a restaurant known for its kotas. Doe Boy is seen enjoying the Cheesy Kota Nik Naks, filled with the nacho cheese flavour sprinkled with kota fixings like beef patties and chakalaka sauce.
Maglera is a great choice for Nik Naks because he presents an authentic township voice to represent the new product. Doe Boy encapsulates the spirit and vibe of the neighborhoods that birthed the kota.
